EC begins the restricted voter registration exercise from Monday, June 17 to July 7 | Policy

The Electoral Commission announces for the information of the general public that the registration exercise of limited voters will now run from "From Monday, June 17, 2019 to Sunday, July 7, 2019."

This follows the rejection of a motion for an interlocutory injunction to prevent the Board from undertaking the planned exercise.

Registration will take place in all Commission district offices and in the designated areas / electoral centers of the country.

Registration will start from From 07:00 to 18:00 every day, and will include weekends.

Potential applicants are therefore invited to visit one of the registration centers with the following documents to prove their eligibility.

I. A valid driver's license
ii. A Ghanaian pbadport
iii. National identity card
iv. An old non-biometric voter ID card. (This is for candidates who registered before the 2012 voter registration exercise.

Candidates who do not possess any of the above documents may go to the registration centers with two (2) registered voters to act as guarantors for the purposes of registration.

CONTEXT

Due to an injunction from the court, the Electoral Commission had suspended for an indefinite period the limited voter registration exercise, which was to begin from Friday, June 7 to Thursday, July 27 in all its offices. district and in 1,573 selected electoral zones across the country.

Mr Samuel Tettey, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Operations, stated that the 1,573 selected electoral areas, which used biometric verification registration kits (BVR) for the exercise, constituted approximately 25 % of the electoral zones of the country.

He said the suspension of the exercise was due to a court injunction aimed at preventing the Commission from holding the limited voter registration exercise.
