EC does not threaten their security by making bad decisions – Jean Mensa | Policy

The president of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mrs. Jean Mensa, badured that the commission would not endanger the security of the country in deciding the eventual election.

She explained that the commission was well aware that an erroneous decision by its commissioners or officials could create tension and throw the country into a state of conflict.

The President of the EC, Mrs. Jean Mensa, gave badurances when she led a team to visit the secretariat of the Conference of Catholic Bishops (CBC) and later the office of Imam National Chief in Accra on Tuesday latest.

The visit was part of the commission's program to make its electoral process more open to the public and stakeholders.

Bishops' Conference

At the CBC Secretariat, the European Commission team met with the leaders and had a fruitful dialogue on the various electoral reforms being deployed by the commission.

The meeting also created a platform for both institutions to discuss possible ways to work together to deepen the country's electoral process. Bishop Philip Naameh, President of the CBC, and the two Deputy Commissioners of the EC, Dr. Bossman Eric Asare and Mr. Samuel Tettey, were also present.

Office of the Imam Chief

Sheikh Osmanu Sharubutu and some executives from the Muslim community attended the meeting at the Office of the Chief Imam.

The two offices also agreed to work together to ensure that Ghanaians understand the various electoral processes ahead of the 2020 elections.

Conscience of the EC

In separate meetings, Ms Mensa told both groups that the committee was seeking to involve them and to count on their support before the various upcoming elections.

She said the commission viewed the CBC and Imam leader's group as two pillars of the company's growth. This is why the EC would need its support to implement the various electoral reforms.

Earlier in his submission, Archbishop Naameh said that they were willing and willing to badist the EC in fulfilling its electoral mandate.

He stressed the need for the EC to intensify its education on the electoral process so that citizens understand it and comply with the laws.

Office of the Imam Chief

Sheikh Osmanu Sharubutu said that his group was ready to join the EC and help sensitize Ghanaians to the need to respect the electoral laws and respect the peace.

He urged the EC to be cautious in deploying its electoral reforms, keeping in mind that any wrong decision could generate chaos for Ghana.
