The Electoral Commission (EC) has given the go-ahead for the holding of a limited registration exercise in the various district offices of the country.
The three-week exercise, which was to begin on June 7 and end on July 27, was canceled after an injunction was filed by Umar Ayuba, a former member of parliament in Daboya, in the district. North Gonja, at the Supreme Court.
The EC had scheduled the exercise to register people who are 18 since the last voter register update, but according to him, his decision to conduct the exercise in his district offices will deprive potential voters the right to vote.
As a result of the injunction, the Board apologized for any stated inconvenience by announcing that a new date would be announced soon.
Sylvia Annor, Communications Manager at the EC, told Joy News that she had no choice but to comply with court orders.
"The Commission is still waiting for the final decision on the court's request for an injunction on this issue," she said at the time.
On Tuesday, June 11, the case was closed by the court of first instance.
Although the court did not give reasons immediately, he said he would make the full decision available to political parties.
Joy News's checks at the Commission indicate that the Commissioners have not yet met on the court's decision and have subsequently announced a new date for the exercise.
The Electoral Commission has previously indicated that the Supreme Court's application would affect the activities scheduled for the year.
According to its schedule, the EC should proceed to registration on June 7 in anticipation of the local elections and referendum scheduled for next December.
Ms. Annor said that they would bring an adjustment to the schedule if necessary.
