The Election Commission (EC) is preparing to file its response as first respondent to the election petition filed by former President John Dramani Mahama to the Supreme Court on December 30, 2020.
A high-ranking source at the Commission told the Ghanaian News Agency that the Commission received the summons last week and was setting up an information and legal team for the hearing.
The petition calls for an annulment of the results of the presidential election and a resumption of these between the two candidates; M. Mahama and Nana Akufo-Addo. President Akofo-Addo is the second respondent in the petition.
Mr. Godwin Edudzi Tamekloe, member of the legal team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, head of national communications of the Party, presented the petition on behalf of the petitioner.
The petition, among others, also targets a statement that the announcement of the results was unconstitutional, null and void and calls on the court to prevent President Akufo-Addo from running for president-elect.
