The Electoral Commission set a new date for the limited registration exercise after a court injunction resulted in the suspension of the previous schedule.

The exercise will run from Monday, June 17 to Sunday, July 7. This follows the rejection of the injunction requested by Umar Ayuba.

Ayuba filed an application with the Supreme Court to prevent the Commission from registering only three days before the beginning of the exercise.

The injunction follows an action brought by the same individual to challenge the EC's decision to retain registration in its district offices and in certain electoral zones.

According to Mr Ayuba, the Commission's directive has no legal basis, which renders it unconstitutional.

But the EC said the injunction had been dismissed and that the Commission would continue the exercise in all district offices and designated areas / centers of the country.
