Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa
Election Commissioner Jean Mensah told Parliament's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Monday that his temporary staff would be paid next week on Thursday.
According to her, debt was created as a result of the 2018 referendum, which saw the creation of six new regions in addition to the existing ten. These are the Oti, Bono East, Savannah, Ahafo, Northwest and Northeast regions.
Describing debt as "a cause for concern," said Ms. Mensa, the situation persisted despite her efforts to correct it. According to her, "they tried to ask for money in writing" but without success.
But, hoping the money will be paid on Thursday, she told parliamentarians: "On Thursday, we were briefed by the Ministry of Finance. They gave us a mandate stating that they gave us the money back. So we just started treating it, "she added.
