EC wants to "deprive ordinary citizens of their inalienable rights" – Asiedu Nketiah | Policy

The Democratic National Congress of the opposition [NDC] says that they will continue to fight against a future limited registration exercise of the Electoral Commission [EC].

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, secretary general of the party, said his party would be on the side of the EC only if the exercise was decentralized.

According to the NDC, many Ghanaians will be deprived of the right to vote if the limited registration exercise takes place at the district level.

"The argument we have advanced is that it would be a means of depriving ordinary citizens who have the inalienable right, under national law, to exercise their right to vote as citizens of that country. When you look at the trials they did last year with the referendum, they recorded the registrations in 47 districts. They estimated 100,000 voters, but only 47,000 were registered. This clearly tells you that many more people who could have been registered have not registered. " he said in an interview on NeatFMis "Ghana Montie"Morning broadcast.

But the EC dismissed the allegations, saying the district-level registration plan was part of the measures to modernize its IT infrastructure.
