Educated Fools & Disappointed Graduates Shouting “#FixTheCountry” Should Make It Right – Shatta Wale

Dancehall artist Shatta Wale launched into the #FixTheCountry debate by describing activists calling on the government to do what is necessary as “educated fools and disappointed graduates.”

In a series of Facebook posts on Tuesday, the multi-award-winning singer wrote: “Educated fools and disappointed [sic] graduates saying #FixTheCountry. Set yourself up for cheap thinkers.

Born Charles Nii Armah Mensah, the singer said the country’s problem was its youth who couldn’t stand up and fight for themselves.

He said aggrieved youth who engage in social media activism will get nowhere if they don’t make amends.

In recent months, young Ghanaians have taken to social media to demand accountability, good governance and better living conditions from the government.

FixTheCountry’s advocacy that began in May has garnered tremendous support since activists, mostly young people, highlighted some of the country’s shortcomings.

The government, in its response to aggrieved youth, described the initiatives it has implemented, including the Nation Builders’ Corp (NABCO), the National Plan for Youth Entrepreneurship and Innovation (NEIP) to strengthen human capital in the country.

But protesters say the impact of these initiatives has not been felt on the ground.

Attempts by activists to stage a street protest were foiled by police through legal action, but the campaign continued unabated online.

The recent murder of one of the #FixTheCountry activists by a mob in Ejura in the Ashanti region appears to have strengthened the resolve of activists, who view the killing of Mohammed Kaaka as a symptom of the social fabric and rotten political system of the Ghana.
