Eight in pre-trial detention, two on bail after the failure of the Kintampo cascades management

Eight of the 10 people arrested after a failed takeover of the Kintampo waterfalls were taken into custody by a Sunyani district court.

They must reappear before the tribunal presided over by His Honor Fred Obikyere on April 25, 2019.

The eight were arrested in Kintampo during a clash between Mo's youth and the police-army backup team after failing to retake the Kintampo waterfalls.

They were charged with conspiracy to commit a crime of wit and riot with offensive weapons.

Among the eight were Stephen Busi, Anthony Kwabena Owusu, aka Free Boy, Samuel Nyarko, Emmanuel Nkrumah and Kwabena Winsah.

The rest includes Kwadwo Gyinde Michael Nimoh and Sumaila Ayuba aka Malam Azonto.

Bail was granted to two other people, Kwadwo Kumah and Kwaku Acheampong Ruben.

Kumah has been released on bail for health reasons, as he is currently being treated for gunshot wounds while Ruben is a minor.

Presenting the facts of the incident, the chief legal officer of Ghana's police, Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Akonnor, said on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 that he had received information that a group of young men suspected of holding firearms belonging to the Mo Youth Association, sticks, cutlbades and other offensive weapons, numbering about forty, had gone hunting officials at the cascades.

Chief Superintendent Akonnor noted that the police have mobilized and arrested, among others, Stephen Busi, Anthony Kwabena Owusu, Emmanuel Nkrumah, Kwabena Winsah and Kwadwo Gyinde.

He added that Nimoh Michael, Kwadwo Kumah, Kwaku Acheampong Ruben and Sumaila Ayuba, alias Mallam Azonto, were also arrested after besieging the police station with others who came with offensive weapons, including guns, sticks, knives and stones.

He added that the young man had blocked the road leading to the divisional police headquarters. However, he quickly called for the strengthening of the Techiman and Nkoransa military and police forces.

One person was shot.

He added that WO II Charles Opoku had also been stabbed with a knife.

The accused's lawyer, Alex Amponsah, said his clients were innocent. He therefore pleaded for their release on bail, so that the police could continue their investigations, but the magistrate granted bail to two of his clients.

In an interview with Citi News, lawyer Alex Amponsah was pleased that two of his clients were released on bail.

Attorney Amponsah said he hoped his clients would be released on bail when they reappeared next week.
