85 min: N'Golo Kanté is almost Frankfurt's second goal! The midfielder tries to be clever as Chelsea plays from behind by Jorginho and Kostic is played on goal. In all fairness, Kante is doing fine, sneaking forward to quell the danger. Chelsea survives – but these are two big losses in seconds. They looked so comfortable, too.

84 min: David Abraham is heading without any mark! The Frankfurt captain moved into the box and nodded to Rode's corner. A late rally of the Germans, who apparently plunged into the energy reserves.

80 min: Chelsea – and David Luiz – get away with one. Da Costa comes back to life, besieging the Brazilian and pbading in front of the defender. He hits a nice ball from the right … but the linesman has the flag in the air. It was slow by David Luiz.

79 min: They say that it is the hope that kills you. Chelsea is endemic, Jorginho makes a crucial challenge on Gacinovic. There should be only one winner here, but can Chelsea make sure his pressure counts? And now, just at the right moment …

77 min: Frankfurt players and supporters want a penalty kick, but the referee has none. A bullet of nothing cannon in the chest of Olivier Giroud. Frankfurt is becoming ballistic, but it was a rather tired call and without conviction. They had a glimmer of hope.

76 min: David Luiz is heading straight for Trapp! The Hazard center is beautiful, with Chelsea's defender doing well to escape his marker and sending a diving header to the goal. But it's finally too close to the Frankfurt goalkeeper who meets.

75 min: Loftus-Cheek wins Chelsea free kick, 25 yards out, wide left. Can Eden Hazard evoke magic?

73 min: Hazard sees his shot drift! Trapp begins by saving Loftus-Cheek, who drifted into space on the edge of the box. Caesar Azpilicueta crossed from the right. Frankfurt just can not keep possession of it. And Chelsea keeps coming back on them. Hinteregger is holding on there. A tired Frankfurt is everywhere.

72 min: Frankfurt makes his first change of the evening. Gonçalo Paciência replaces Fernandes, who was on booking.

71 min: Loftus-Cheek sneaking into the area, his second touch is heavy but the ball is found in the trajectory of Giroud. The Chelsea striker turns around smartly but ends up letting go of an effort.

69 min: Gacinovic overcooks a routine pbad and David Abraham fails to keep it in play. Chelsea, who continues to sound, detects the blood. Hazard, Loftus-Cheek and Pedro are lining up to take over from Jorginho in midfield.

68 min: Frankfurt looks pretty past. Chelsea teases them by monopolizing the ball, forcing them to work even harder. It is a thankless task. Adi Hütter, the Frankfurt coach, must be tempted to change things.

He has Hinteregger for company but the attacker superbly protects the defender's ball before he can intervene to intercept. Frankfurt tries to counter, trying to spot Jovic but it breaks down.

62 min: Eden Hazard replaces Willian. Half an hour for the Belgian.

61 min: A serious challenge on Loftus-Cheek earned Gelson Fernandes, the former Manchester City midfielder, a booking.

58 min: David Luiz slams the crossbar! The Chelsea defender made a spectacular effort to attack the Frankfurt wall.

56 min: Willian forces a backup of Trapp! He cuts his right foot leaning towards the goal, but he lacks conviction. Hasebe is then sentenced for cutting Willian after Chelsea recovered possession of the ball. A promising position for Chelsea to test the Frankfurt goalkeeper. Eden Hazard is undressed and ready for action but, on the ground, it is David Luiz who imagines him to 25 yards …

53 min: Loftus-Cheek tumbles at the end of a slippery movement of Chelsea! This comes from a neat counterattack, launched by Kanté just inside his half. Loftus-Cheek then made a leap forward, overtaking Hinteregger before sliding into Pedro. The Portuguese asked Loftus-Cheek to make a pop, but in the end, his tibia escapes him. A wonderful gesture but no end product.

52 min: David Luiz buys a free kick in the bottom half of Chelsea. They started the second half better. They dominate the ball and seem to be looking for a second. Meanwhile, Eden Hazard is warming up.

50 min: If a Terry Butcher bandage does not like Jorginho to unsuspecting fans, nothing will do it. The Italian gets up, all smiles. As is Rode. They are both happy to continue playing, the referee looking for a quick boost from the pair.

49 min: An ugly clash of heads between Rode and Jorginho. The Chelsea midfielder seems to have grown worse. The medical team is quickly at his aid. Jorginho remains on the ground.

48 min: Chelsea brought Frankfurt early in the second half. The hosts started a little by lethargy. The same can not be said of the crowd. They are fully inflated, supercharged.

47 min: Jorginho managed to get the ball to the middle of the field, immediately putting Sarri's forward in the foreground.

Leveling at the interval. Luka Jovic, 21, earned a well deserved lead over Chelsea, but Franck took advantage just before the break. Ruben Loftus-Cheek started a mini-raise, hitting his head a bit off the post before giving way to the provider to pick Pedro, who equalized for the goalkeeper. 39 min: Sebastian Rode has been ubiquitous for Frankfurt. Neither Loftus-Cheek, Jorginho nor Kanté approached him.

37 min: Chelsea wins another corner thanks to Pedro. Willian hits the ball and Giroud returns to the ground calling a penalty after clashing with Hinteregger, but that is the Chelsea striker who is at fault. Sarri and Zola have a fourth official pop, but it's mostly frustration. Chelsea just was not good enough.

35 min: Jorginho turns Rode half way. The driver from Dortmund will bring him in and, at the end, turn the ball for a corner from Frankfurt by Giroud's head. They too are opting for a little corner before not getting the most out of another mouthful of cherry.
