The Traditional Council of Ejura called on the government to swiftly implement the recommendations of Judge George Kingsley Koomson’s commission report.
Ejura chief Barima Osei Hwedie II, who made the call, said implementing the recommendations would not only bring development but also promote eternal peace in the region.
Barima Osei Hwedie II said this on Friday October 1, 2021, when the traditional council culminated this year’s yam festival in Ejura in Ejura-Sekyeredumase district.
The festival called “Sekyerene” is celebrated every year by the chiefs and the people to thank the ancestors of the land and the traditional stool for providing the people with a bumper crop of fresh yams last year.
Given the chaotic scenes that the Canton of Ejura has gone through in recent months, the traditional authorities have focused all their attention during this year’s event on strengthening the healing process and deepening the bonds between the community members.
A big durbar to commemorate the Yam Festival 2021, took place on Friday October 1 in Ejura by the Traditional Council of Ejura, under the theme “Peaceful coexistence for development”.
The Durbar has also been used to raise funds for development projects, in particular a police headquarters in Ejura.
Barima Osei Hwedie II, senior protocol officer in the vice president’s office, who focused his speech at the festival on peace and development, lamented the nasty skirmishes that have taken place in Ejura in recent months.
He stressed the need for the people of Ejura to welcome the commission’s report and help the government immediately launch processes to implement the commission’s directives.
Barima Osei Hwedie II urged government, business and all stakeholders to come to Ejura and assist the traditional council in their efforts to build a state-of-the-art divisional police command as part of a measure to keep the peace and harmony continues in the community.
“The expansion of the facilities for police personnel and the construction of recreation centers in Ejura were among the ten recommendations of the commission and I particularly urge the government to help Ejura achieve this goal”
