A participant in the first edition of Asempa FMS Ekosiisen dialog series, Angel Carbonu, asked the government to guarantee the resources needed to implement the Free High High School program and to ensure that they are "adequate and timely".
Mr. Carbonu, also President of the National Association of Graduate Professors [NAGRAT], said that when resources are sufficient but are not provided in time, their provision will always be against the purpose for which they are made available.
"If we like the Free SHS, we should be ready to finance it in order to maintain it. The money that goes into schools should be enough for the people in charge to manage, "he said.
"The provision of these resources should arrive on time because, when things go wrong, [dis]chart, over a period and that you send the money afterwards, you will not be able to repair the damage caused, "he added.
Mr Carbonu also called on the government to state its position on the provision of textbooks, with some parents refusing to provide some key textbooks to their pupils, all in the name of "free" SHS.
Since the government began running Free SHS during its first year of takeover of the country, the number of registrations has increased in the country's 578 public high schools.
Some 1.7 billion cedis (over $ 500 million) have been absorbed by the financial responsibilities badumed by the parents.
But the NAGRAT boss said that for Free SHS to be successful, teachers need to be motivated and empowered.
"The government needs to find a way to motivate teachers because when teachers are motivated enough, it also helps us to teach without any challenge," he said.
The quarterly discussions brought together students from various institutions of higher education and universities across the country.
