NAGANO – A 77-year-old man was arrested Friday night after allegedly entering the Hokuriku Shinkansen line and disrupted high-speed rail services by walking on the tracks, police and the railroad operator said.
Katsuichi Sakurai, a farmer from Tateshina Town, Nagano Prefecture, was found crouching in a tunnel at around 11:30 pm, more than three hours after he went down to Sakudaira Station in the prefecture, they said on Saturday.
It is thought that he walked about 10 km from the train station.
The police arrested Sakurai for violating the shinkansen security law by entering the railroad and admitted to having admitted the charges. However, his words sometimes make no sense and he apparently has trouble communicating, they added.
The East Japan Railway Company (JR East) twice intercepted the railway line between Takasaki and Nagano railway stations while the police and station staff searched for the man. More than 9,000 pbadengers have been affected by the delay, said JR East.
The line debuted in March 2015, connecting Tokyo directly to the Hokuriku region on the coast of the Sea of Japan via Nagano.
Also on Friday, another incident occurred on the Tokaido Shinkansen line when a large billboard located above the ticket machines of Toyohashi Station, Aichi Prefecture, S & T. Was collapsed and hit a man who was buying a ticket, announced the Central Japan Railway.
The man of about forty years involved in the incident, which occurred around 7 pm, was not injured, JR Central said.
