The great mess created by SP. Jean Adukwei Mensa to the Ghana Election Commission (EC) during and after the administration of the 2020 Ghana elections still constitute grounds for dismissing the head of the EC from this taxpayer funded post. Professor Stephen Adei’s assertion that “Jean Mensa is the best EC President Ghana has ever had” is patently outlandish and absurd in the highest degree.
Professor Adei’s assertion is a big lie that borders on propaganda.
In Part 1 of our series, we wrote that for nearly 3 decades the ‘carefully carved reputation’ of the Election Commission, which was the subject of Professor Gyampo’s recent article on these same pages, has been ‘carved »Mainly during the tenure of Dr Kwadwo Afari -Gyan, during the 1990s, until 2015; and during the tenure of Mrs. Charlotte Osei.
Obviously, Ms. Mensa played no role in establishing and securing the reputation of this damn reputation of EC.
On the contrary!
Obviously, Ms Jean Mensah, as Administrator, did not bring any innovation to the EC during her stay at the EC that would allow the elections in Ghana to be administered more efficiently, more efficiently, more economically and more fairly. .
On the contrary.
Today, visiting the website of the Election Commission just 15 days after 2021, we see that the EC has effectively beheaded “the history of the Commission” in just 15 lines, 5 paragraphs and 205 words. The “story” begins in 1968 and for some strange reason ends in 1971. This, on web pages published in what appears to be a 1 dot font which makes web pages unreadable except with a magnifying glass. When you bother, the visitor finds several “Download” links that communicate: “This page does not appear to exist”.
Said Jean Adukwei Mensa on the whole “history of the commission”:
“The Commission strives to express the will of the people by organizing free, fair and honest elections. We have been trained to oversee electoral procedures and guard against electoral fraud. Learn more about our history and the people behind it… Prior to 1968, the Minister of Local Government was responsible for the conduct of elections in the country. There were many complaints of lack of transparency and fairness in the conduct of the electoral process, which resulted in the establishment of a commission of inquiry into local government and electoral reforms after the taking of the election. control by the army of 1966 … It was in 1968 that the Interim The Electoral Commission was created as an independent body responsible for the registration of voters and the conduct and supervision of elections … C ‘is the result of recommendations made by the Siriboe Commission of Inquiry on Local Government and Electoral Reforms in 1968… Judge VCRAC Crabbe was appointed Interim Commissioner in 1968 and under his supervision; the Commission conducted the 1969 elections. If one can borrow from this concise and sad account of the “history” of the EC which hides “history”, Jean Mensa’s conduct of the 2020 elections lacked “fairness” or “transparency” .
And it is clear that Jean Mensa cannot produce or manage a website worthy of the important mission entrusted to the Election Commission, even using taxpayer funds.
But, Jean Mensa seems to have other uses of public funds. (This we will cover in Part 3 of our series, in our time).
At our mission, last time, we commented on the conclusion of “… unnecessary detour that… derailed the integrity of the 2020 election…” by Dr. Wereko-Brobby (2020).
Add information, now fully validated, that voters in one or two regions were completely disenfranchised and physically prevented by Jean Mensa from voting for a Member of Parliament of their choice in any constituency in the election from 2020.
On this important issue, last week Deputy Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame argued in Ghana’s Supreme Court that voters in Santrokofi Akpafu, Likpe and Lolobi (SALL) regions should have voted for their favorite MP. To the point, in plain language, lawyer Dame told this tribunal that the Election Commission headed by Mrs Jean Mensa had erred in not allowing the people of SALL to vote.
The last time we checked we did not find that Jean Mensa had apologized to the people she had prevented from voting for the MP even though she had to do so herself at her greatest pleasure, and neither did we see Jean Mensa proposing a method and a calendar of compensation for injured, injured citizens and voters.
For the judges who continue to wear silly horsehair wigs borrowed from the colonial masters of Ghana, it was rich for those on the Supreme Court to just sit in this room and move on to the next topic, injuries. and voters’ rights be damned!
The last one we watched, Jean Mensa did not apologize to the Ghanaian people.
It is clear that the damage caused by Jean Mensah is not limited only to the voters, but also to all the households and communities from which the voters come.
Can Jean Mensa tell Ghanaians exactly how many people she trampled on as she deployed executive police miles and miles away from that same “transparency, fairness and integrity”, the same values as Jean Mensa and the employees of? the EC parade as their motto and mantra?
In conclusion, by his actions in recent months, Jean Mensa has totally disqualified herself from further leading the Ghana Election Commission in any other election in Ghana, and from managing the administration of that same public agency.
Every Ghanaian and Ghanaian supporter should be outraged.
Jean Adukwei Mensa must go now!
The immediate and forced departure of Ms. Mensa from the EC in Ghana would still be a concise but crucial step if Ghana is to begin to reposition the Election Commission as an objective, credible and non-partisan public institution for the administration of elections.
By the way, Ms. Jean Mensa has failed directly in carrying out the mission for which she was entrusted in accordance with the Constitution and her responsibilities of objectivity and partisan impartiality. When it mattered, for reasons for the most part only known to her, Jean Mensa could not “(M) anage the conduct of … public elections …” when she had the opportunity.
It was Job One!
There is no integrity there!
Ms. Jean Adukwei Mensa has to leave now. It failed in Ghana, objectively:
