Renowned economist, Mr. Kwame Pianim predicted that Ghana’s economy would be bleak amid the ongoing election petition and associated tensions.

“2021 will be a very difficult year for countries like ours, and we must give our support to whoever becomes the executive chairman.” he said as a guest of Accra-based Citi TV’s “Point of View” program, monitored by MyNewsGh.com.

Former President John Dramani Mahama is currently in court to challenge the validity of the 2020 presidential election results that the Election Commission (EC), President, Jean Mensa, declared in favor of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who is currently pursuing his second term.

According to Mr. Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), neither he nor President Akufo-Addo achieved a clear majority of 50 + 1% in the 2020 polls.

“If these two people [Mahama and Akufo-Addo] those who have taken an oath to protect the interests of Ghanaians cannot put aside their personal affairs and work for the interests of Ghanaians, so we are lost, ”said Pianim.

According to the statesman, however, Mr Mahama and President Akufo-Addo are making sure their supporters do not do anything untoward, they both need to do more behind closed doors for the benefit of Ghanaians.

“Speak quietly behind closed doors and once that is done it will penetrate everyone, so the courts will know that what Ghanaians are looking for is justice. Mr. Kwame Pianim advised.
