President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and former vice president Atiku Abubakar of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) must sign another agreement before the 2019 elections.
The agreement will be the second in two months.
This was confirmed Sunday in a statement made available to DAILY POST and signed by Fr. Atta Barkindo, Head of Secretariat – National Peace Committee, Kukah Center, Abuja.
"The National Peace Committee, aware of the importance of peaceful elections and the non-violent transfer of power, has engaged various stakeholders in the preparation of the 2019 general elections.
"The NPC is grateful to the Kofi Annan Foundation for supporting this process and, after 2015, to once again support free and fair elections in Nigeria.
"The NPC has engaged the National Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), the security services, 91 registered parties, the media and civil society organizations.
"In view of the difficulties encountered, the Committee organized the first signing of the National Peace Agreement on 11 December 2018 to support peaceful campaigns and political rallies.
"The Committee, led by the former Nigerian Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, organized the second signing of the National Peace Agreement to be held Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at 10 am International Conference Center of Abuja.
"This signature is intended to engage stakeholders to accept the results of the vote, provided that it is announced by the INEC, the body authorized by law and deemed free, fair and credible."
