Ghana has officially unveiled its policy on the Drive Electric initiative.
The policy was launched at the first edition of the Ghana Electric Mobility Conference and Exhibition held on September 23, 2021 under the theme of Electric Mobility Opportunities and Challenges in Ghana.
The conference organized by the Energy Commission and the Ministry of Energy, in partnership with the Ministry of Transport, brought together electricity experts, policy makers, tax officials and industry players automobile.
The policy aims to put the country on a low carbon development path.
During the conference’s opening speech, Dr Opoku Prempeh, said the initiative aims to create productive demand for Ghana’s excess electricity, as well as a reduction in vehicle pollution and emissions. of carbon dioxide.
According to the minister, the initiative was in line with the global push to reduce emissions from transport-related activities under the climate change agenda.
He said he will also address the prospects and challenges of electric vehicles as he prepares to roll out a national policy to introduce electric vehicles into the transportation sector.
It was certain that this will also boost the penetration of electric vehicles, while putting in place other measures to stimulate the growth and sustainable use of electricity.
He assured that his ministry was working closely with the Ministry of Finance to obtain an import exemption for 100% electric vehicles.
“Electric vehicles are the future and the future is here with us,” said the Minister.
