Elon Musk says Tesla will soon allow owners to stream YouTube and Netflix in its vehicles. He claims that the experience is "incredibly immersive" and "cinematic".
While Tesla's S and X models are equipped with a 17-inch screen and Model 3's are 15-inch, the video playback capability is locked to work only for the rear camera's flow and can not read. no other video content.
This remains true whether the vehicle is driven or even parked.
However, Tesla is talking about starting to allow streaming inside his vehicles when they are parked.
Musk recently said that Tesla was considering adding a video streaming feature to the central screen in "version 10" of its software, but the date of this update was unclear.
Today, the CEO said Tesla will publish "soon" the streaming feature:

The main use of the new feature to come should be when it is stopped to be recharged while traveling on the road.
Musk also stated previously that Tesla's streaming video would only work if it was coupled with Wi-Fi access in order not to use the bandwidth of the cellular connection in the car, which would cost Tesla dearly as it is included in most vehicles.
Last year, Tesla launched a new premium connectivity fee package to support the onboard Internet capabilities of its growing fleet.
To make Tesla's upcoming streaming feature more useful, Musk said Tesla was planning to deploy free Wi-Fi at its Supercharger stations.

As already mentioned, Tesla has designed the interior of the Model 3 so that it is designed for autonomous driving. Media consumption is expected to become even more important in vehicles with the advent of fully autonomous driving.
The central screen of Model 3 would be a good example. The landscape format instead of the vertical screen design of the Model S / X is more suitable for videos.

Even though Elon is talking about streaming video while he was parked, I think we'll see Tesla focus more on exploiting this screen for multimedia content after figuring out autonomous driving.
