Elon Musk was on Joe Rogan’s podcast for the third time, and you know what that means: wacky, unfiltered ideas straight from the mind of the richest man in the world.
Some were quite pedestrian; For example, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX described a solar-powered electric van, saying it makes more sense to use solar panels on a van than a car because of the larger area on its roof. And since it’s mandatory, some of the things he shared were very typically musky; for example, early in the podcast, Musk said he told SpaceX engineers to make the top of the spacecraft “pointer” because of a quote from the Sasha Baron Cohen movie The dictator.
On the subject of Cybertruck and why it is designed as is, Musk said he wanted to build “a tank of the future – you can see that, along with a probable explanation of why the Cybetruck’s glass came off. smashed during the infamous Steel Ball demo, in the clip below.
The most notable discussion on The Joe Rogan experience, in terms of upcoming products, involved Musk’s idea of a car – specifically, Tesla’s next Roadster supercar – hovering in the air.
The important part of this for Musk (and we agree) is how to get the car high without killing people.
“Maybe he can hover like a meter above the ground (…) If you dive it will blow up the suspension, but you won’t die,” he told Rogan. “(It could be) maybe six feet tall … you won’t die here.” Musk said the car can actually move while hovering, and it can go quite fast, while also repeating his idea of adding rocket motors to the Roadster.
As for when the Roadster (the non-hover version, we’re assuming) might be available, Musk confirmed to Rogan that the Roadster is expected to reach customers in 2022.
