Emilia Clarke writes about the survival of two aneurysms in an essay entitled "New Yorker"

Playing Daenerys Targaryen in HBO's hit show Game of thrones, who returns for his eighth and final season on April 14, actress Emilia Clarke often seems invincible. But it's very different from the reality in which she lived while working on the series.

Clarke wrote a new emotional essay for New Yorker in which she reveals that she had two cerebral aneurysms that required immediate surgery to survive.

The first was discovered after Clarke had a violent migraine in the middle of a training session, followed by violent vomiting in the locker room bathroom. In describing what happened at the gym that day, Clarke writes, "I immediately felt as if an elastic was squeezing my brain. I tried to ignore the pain and go through it, but I just could not. I told my coach that I was almost heading to the locker room to the locker room. I fell to my knees and fell to my knees and began to be violently, voluminously ill. Meanwhile, the pain – shooting, stabbing, coercing pain – was worse, I knew what was happening: my brain was damaged. "

She was taken to Whittington Hospital, where an MRI revealed the source of Clarke's symptoms.

"The diagnosis was quick and threatening: subarachnoid hemorrhage, a life-threatening stroke, caused by bleeding in the space surrounding the brain," writes Clarke about this first aneurysm. "I had an aneurysm, an arterial rupture. As I learned later, about one-third of HSA patients die immediately or soon after. For patients who survive, urgent treatment is required to isolate very high risk of a second, often fatal bleeding. If I wanted to live and avoid terrible deficits, I would have to undergo urgent surgery. And, even in this case, there was no guarantee. "

She remembers a period during which she had experienced aphasia while she was in intensive care and could not form coherent sentences. She went back to shooting Game of thrones Season 2 shortly after, but writes that "every minute of every day, I thought I was going to die."

Even after recovering, another smaller aneurysm has increased. In 2013, doctors in New York – where Clarke appeared on Broadway – found her at a brain scan. When they tried to get out by the surgery, the operation failed. Clarke woke up "screaming in pain."

"I had a huge hemorrhage and the doctors explained that my chances of survival were precarious if they did not work anymore," she writes. "This time, they needed to access my brain in the traditional way – through my skull.And the operation must take place immediately."

Throughout this terrible health test, Clarke was pushing for US and trying to highlight the face of Daenerys, seductive blonde and fearless. Although she has fully recovered since then, she has had a poignant experience and taught her how precarious life can be.

"On the set, I did not miss a beat, but I struggled, Season 2 would be my worst, I did not know what Daenerys was doing," she writes. "If I'm really honest, every minute of every day, I thought I was going to die."
