Here's what we know so far:

• The light aircraft, a Piper Malibu, was traveling from Nantes, in western France, to Cardiff.

• Guernsey police said the plane disappeared from radar on the Channel Monday around 8 pm.

• The Guernsey Coast Guard was alerted at 2023 by Jersey ATC, indicating that a light aircraft had turned off their radar about 15 miles north of Guernsey.

• A major search and rescue operation involving both St Peter Port and Alderney lifeboats and Air Search 1 and 2 helicopters HM Coastguard is also involved in a major search.

• The research had to be abandoned late Monday night due to the deteriorating weather conditions, before resuming at 8:00 am on Tuesday morning.

• The aircraft was flying at 5,000 feet. After pbading Guernsey, the plane asked to get off. ATC Jersey lost contact while flying at 2300 feet.

• According to the Met Office, weather conditions resulted in "a few showers", adding that "the wind speed was not too bad – average speeds were in the range of 15 to 20 mph".
