DUBAI, April 28, 2019 (WAM) – The Ministry of Health and Prevention, MOHAP, has called on the public to become aware of systemic lupus erythematosus, SLE, in order to minimize its effects on health, especially on major organs , including the heart and kidneys and lungs.
If it was not under control, lupus would have the effect of making the immune system responsible for protecting the body against itself, by attacking healthy cells and tissues, which, in this case, would evolve into a life-threatening illness, warned the ministry's medical specialist at an awareness workshop. .
The workshop was held under the auspices of Yousif Mohammed Al Serkal, Deputy Undersecretary of Hospital Sector at the Le Meridien Dubai Hotel and Conference Center on Saturday.
Led by Dr. Suad Hannawi, Rheumatology Consultant and Chair of the Rheumatology Committee of the Ministry of Health and Prevention, the workshop aimed to raise public awareness of lupus and the importance of its screening and management. early treatment in the presence of health practitioners, including physicians. technical and nursing staff, as well as leading rheumatologists and experts.
Participants discussed the latest developments in the treatment of rheumatism, prevalence rates and the role of the genetic factor and mutations in the incidence of rheumatism. They also reviewed the modern techniques and methods used to reduce the spread of rheumatism, as well as its early detection procedures, badysis, and symptoms, requiring referral to a rheumatologist to follow up on the case.
The workshop also addressed lupus, its management options, its impact on the lungs and pregnancy, and presented an open discussion of related global statistics.
