(CNN) – As airlines struggle to claim the title of "Longest Flight Operator in the World", Emirates is heading for the opposite route in the distance business.
The Dubai-based airline has announced its intention to launch the shortest flight in the world on the world's largest commercial aircraft, the two-stage Airbus A380.

Two daily A380 flights between Dubai and Muscat International Airport are scheduled for July 1st.

The distance between the two cities is only 340 kilometers. Anecdote: it's less than the length of all the wiring of the A380, which, according to the Airbus aircraft builder, would extend over 500 kilometers when it was disposed of more at the end.

The new flights will break the Emirates record. The airline previously operated the shortest regular A380 service in the world, between Dubai and Doha – a distance of 379 kilometers (235 km).
However, Emirates has canceled all fights to Doha in 2017 due to the diplomatic conflict between Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

The airline said the flights will offer long-haul travelers traveling from Muscat via Dubai on a non-stop flight all along the A380. Emirates has flown to Oman since 1993, but its three daily connections with Muscat are all operated by Boeing 777-300ERs.

"The introduction of A380 services in Muscat means that more of our customers will have the opportunity to discover our leading products, as well as choice and travel preferences when they plan their trip." said Sheikh Majid Al Mualla, senior manager of the division. Vice President of the Emirates Business Operations Center, in a statement.

The morning flight, EK 862, will leave Dubai at 8:25 to arrive at Muscat at 9:40. The return flight, EK 863, will leave Muscat at 11:15 to arrive in Dubai at 12:25.

Later in the day, EK 864 will leave Dubai at 16:10. and arrive in Muscat at 17:25 EK 865 will leave Muscat at 19:05 to arrive in Dubai at 20:15.

The two A380 Muscat flights will offer Emirates' clbadic three-clbad configuration, with 429 economy clbad seats on the lower deck, as well as 76 business-clbad flat seats and 14 first-clbad private upper deck suites.

Want more time to enjoy the trip? Emirates also offers the longest non-stop flight on an A380 between Dubai and Auckland, New Zealand. This trip takes about 16 hours.

End of an era

Fans of the A380 were saddened in February when Airbus announced its intention to stop production of jet aircraft after a significant reduction in orders.

Since the first Airbus delivery to Singapore Airlines in 2007, more than 230 A380s have left the badembly line in Toulouse, France. More than 100 of them are driven by Emirates, making it the world's largest super-jumbo operator.

Airbus will deliver its latest A380 orders in 2021.

As the largest commercial aircraft in the world, the A380 typically carries about 550 pbadengers on two full levels, but can hold up to 850 pbadengers.

Measuring nearly 73 meters long, it has a range of 8,478 nautical miles.

The two-tier aircraft was developed for a cost of $ 25 billion. It is composed of about four million spare parts produced by 1,500 companies from 30 countries worldwide.
