Emmanuel Adebayor's efforts were not enough for Togo to qualify for the 2019 Nations Cup of Nations after a 2-1 defeat against Benin Republic on Sunday.

Claude Le Roy's men went to Cotonou in search of a win at the expense of their hosts but the efforts of David Djigla and Steve Mounie of Huddersfield Town wiped out their hopes of qualifying for the tournament in Egypt.

Diglia's first match for Benin Republic in the 12th minute separated the two teams in the first period before Adebayor scored the equalizer in the 72nd minute.

Benin Republic finished its qualifying campaign by becoming the second best team in Group D, behind Algeria, while Togo was at the bottom of the table with five points in six games.
