An IFOP-Fiducial poll for CNEWS and Sud Radio revealed that 20% believe Ms. Le Pen would manage the pandemic and the deployment of vaccines much better than Mr. Macron. The survey also showed that 22% believed that Macron’s former prime minister, Edouard Philippe, would do a better job if he was in power today. The survey was conducted online from February 9 to 10 with a sample of 1,019 people, representative of the French population aged 18 and over.
The latest findings will deal a blow to the embattled president who could face a tough challenge from Ms Le Pen in next year’s national elections.
They are following the results of a similar poll released this week which showed that eight in ten French voters believe the French government was not informed of the Covid-19 crisis and the vaccination program that followed.
Mr Macron has been accused of lack of preparation and vision as he struggles to cope with the epidemic, which has hit France particularly hard compared to some of its European neighbors.
A poll by the Odoxa institute showed that 81% of people think Mr Macron’s center-right government “doesn’t know where it is going” in terms of Covid planning.
The damning assessment of his administration’s performance comes after last week defending his decision not to order a third lockdown in the face of a third wave of the virus.
The president said he was confident that less severe restrictions would reduce infection rates.
But his words have offered little comfort to many French people who cannot see an end in sight as the vaccine deployment crisis continues in the European Union.

In the same poll, conducted for Le Figaro and France Info, six out of ten respondents said “they do not trust the government to manage the crisis”.
And seven in ten said French ministers “did not make the right decisions at the right time”.
Skepticism about Mr Macron’s reasoning behind the coronavirus measures was also found to be high, with 73% saying they did not believe the government was being honest.
The main causes of doubts in the minds of the French point to the successive procrastination of the government on the rules for wearing masks and the slow progress in the administration of the Covid blows.
People in rural areas were found to have a higher rate of mistrust of their government.
Odoxa President Gaël Sliman said there is clearly a “sense of inefficiency over time” when it comes to how the French perceive their government’s response to the crisis.
Mr Sliman said Mr Macron’s recent decision to postpone a third national judgment could backfire.
He said: “If Emmanuel Macron’s objective was – in part – to restore the confidence of economic players a little, it will probably not be achieved.”
The Odoxa survey was carried out online on February 3 and 4, with a total of 1,005 French adults.
