The Ministry of Communication urged employers to make a deliberate effort to hire women information, communication and technology (ICT) experts to take on leading roles in the country's ICT sector.

Ghana will celebrate this year the National Day of Girls in ICT on Monday, May 27, 2019 as a member of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

The Day aims to create a global arena that inspires and encourages girls and young women to consider a career in the rapidly expanding field of ICT.

Under the Global theme: "Expanding Horizons and Changing Attitudes", the Ministry of Communication is organizing an event to commemorate this day at Takoradi Technical University in the Western Region.

In a statement issued by the ministry's public relations unit on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, he said: "As part of this event, five hundred and sixty (560) students from junior high school were selected in nine (9). ) districts to undergo training in some ICT programs with a system of awards for the ten (10) most successful students. The training was conducted simultaneously in the different districts with fifty (50) trainers provided by the Ghana Education Service, Afiba Consult and the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication (GIFEC).

"On Sunday, May 26th, selected women's ICT players from across the country will interact with students and give them motivational lectures on the growing and rewarding careers in the ICT sector, as the sector is in urgent need of ICT. A wide range of ICTs. talents.

"As part of its mandate to promote access to ICT for girls and teachers across the country, the Ministry of Communication calls on teachers, parents and the general public to encourage girls to take an interest in to study science subjects and consider career in ICT.

"It is also important for employers to make a deliberate effort to hire women ICT experts, who could play a leading role in the country's ICT sector," the statement said.
