Minority leaders in parliament regretted the overwhelming endorsement of all ministers appointed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and approved last month.
In a meeting with the Council of Elders of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Tuesday March 16, the two sides agreed that the incident of Wednesday March 3 “was regrettable and unfortunate and went against the principles and values party. “.
The meeting comes exactly after the Council met with party leadership on the approval of some of the ministerial candidates, who were rejected by NDC members on the Nominations Committee.
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Mavis Hawa Koomson and Dr Osei Afriyie Akoto were the three ministers rejected in the report by minority members of the Nominations Committee.
But in plenary, the three received overwhelming votes to be approved as substantive ministers.
This surprised some loyal members of the largest opposition party, including the head of national communications, Sammy Gyamfi.
The next day, Mr Gyamfi took to his official Facebook page to express his disappointment with the party’s leadership in Parliament, insinuating Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu, Chief Minority Whip Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak and even the Right Honorable President, Alban Bagbin, who until 2021 was a member of the NDC.
“Comrades, the betrayal we suffered at the hands of the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, the leadership of our parliamentary group, in particular the Hon. Haruna Iddrissu and the Hon. Muntaka Mubarak, and dozens of our own deputies, is what forces me to work hard for the great NDC to regain power, ”he wrote on Thursday, March 4.
“They bravely challenged the party leadership and betrayed the collective good for their selfish interests. And we must not let them succeed in their parochial quest to destroy the NDC, the party that has done so much for them and for all of us. The shame they brought to the party will forever hang like an albatross around their necks.
But the meeting between the Council and the leaders of the minority in Parliament sought to resolve the clashes.
“The leadership of the Caucus has since been committed to upholding the principles and values of the party in our collective attempt to develop our country,” Council Chairman Alhai Mahama Iddrisu said in a press release afterwards. Of the reunion.
“The Council urged the national leadership of the party to resolve the issues related to the leadership of the caucus in Parliament and called on the party base to remain calm and provide the necessary support to our caucus in order to strictly maintain the Akufo Addo government. the principles of probity and responsibility. ”
He promised that the party will emerge from the failure “more united and focused” and attack the government squarely.
