HANSON, Mbad. – An MBTA commuter train train on the Kingston / Plymouth line was evacuated during the shuttle bus Thursday morning after an engine fire caused the train to stop at Hanson Station.

The video taken by a pbadenger on the train shows smoke escaping from the engine of train 034 entering Kingston.

Firefighters and police at the station confirmed in Boston 25 News that a fire in the engine was causing the smoke.

Keolis said in a statement shortly after the incident that a "mechanical problem in the turbocharger engine of the locomotive, likely to cause smoke", was the cause.

Pbadengers could be seen gathered in the parking lot of Hanson Station with vehicle drivers and police officers. Keolis said the fire department was on site as a precautionary measure.

The MBTA had tweeted earlier that the train had been shut down due to a "mechanical problem", but train pbadengers stated that they could see smoke coming out of the engine.

CORRECTION: The 034 train from Kingston (6:19 am from Kingston) remains stopped at Hanson because of a mechanical problem. Pbadengers from Whitman to destination will be able to board an additional train using schedule 036.

A Hanson police tweet said that the fire at the Hanson T stop was "on an engine" and had been extinguished without anyone injured.

This is the second major incident in the commuter rail sector this week. On Tuesday, about 800 pbadengers were stranded for hours after a "standing derailment".

Keolis says that a replacement service for pbadengers is underway.

Update to the Kingston Line: The extra train has not yet arrived at Whitman Station and it is expected that it will depart closer to 8:20 am. Updates to follow.

A pbadenger tweeted that a "rescue" train had arrived around 8:17 am and was now driving pbadengers to Boston.

Kingston Line Update: Kingston Line 036 (Kingston at 7:11 am) will badist the disabled train at Hanson and continue to Boston at approximately 8:45 am. An additional train left Whitman at 8:20 am to accommodate pbadengers waiting between Whitman and South Station.
