Complaints on social media had suggested that a task was being prepared at Oval this morning after fans said they had not received their tickets in the mail. The organizers of the World Cup had contacted supporters and asked them to remove their tickets at the box office, which raised many expectations.
Off the ground this morning, however, the Guardian found only modest lines and a typically stoic stance on the part of cricket fans, who are generally optimistic about waiting for their turn. The organizers were expecting 400 tickets to be collected that day, but many of them had been sold at the last minute for the sold-out match. The only grumpy fan we could find, James of Ealing in West London, lamented not being able to sit down and have a beer before the game.
