The power outages in downtown Edmonton reached about 9,000 customers on Saturday afternoon, Epcor said.
The breakdowns started around 13:40. with Epcor crews responding to breakdowns in downtown Edmonton, including Central McDougall, Inglewood, Oliver and Westmount.
Similar breakdowns have been reported in areas south of the river at Bonnie Doon, Cloverdale, Holyrood, Idylwylde, Strathearn, Garneau, Queen Alexandra and Strathcona.
An exact cause of these failures is currently the focus of an investigation, said Saturday an Epcor spokesman.
The breakdowns coincided with the cold temperatures in the city and Environment Canada issued an extreme cold warning on Saturday morning.
