Eric Bailly has offered a heartfelt apology to Richarlison after the Everton striker was forced to step down during Everton’s Carabao Cup clash with Manchester United.
The Toffees forward was involved in a horrific collision with Bailly, with Richarlison appearing to be unconscious after initial contact.
He then received extensive treatment by the Everton club doctor, before it was decided that he would not return to action.
Bailly was criticized for the awkward aerial challenge, while Bruno Fernandes was also blamed for apparently pushing the Brazilian into the United defender.
After the match, Bailly shared an image of the clash on social media, before apologizing in a subsequent public post.
Shortly after, he revealed a personal conversation with Richarlison, with Bailly offering his best wishes to the battered forward.
He messaged the front of Everton saying, “I’m sorry mate, take care of your health little bro, you’re the best.”
Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti gave a positive update on Richarlison after the game, saying there would be no immediate signs of lasting damage.
“Richarlison is fine now,” he said. “It’s not a problem. We will check in the next few days what is going on.
“Fortunately, he was fine afterwards.
He added: “I think it was an unfortunate challenge. Dangerous, yes, but all the players were in danger, I think.
The player was seen protesting with Everton club doctor John Hollingsworth and Ancelotti revealed he had the final decision on his replacement.
“Our doctor had full control of the situation, he decided to take it off and I totally agreed with him,” added the Italian.
“He was in control of the situation and the player’s well-being.”

It was one of two controversial incidents in Everton’s 2-0 loss, with Edinson Cavani also avoiding punishment for putting his hand around Yerry Mina’s throat during a scuffle in the second half.
However, with no VAR in play, Ancelotti refused to use the lack of technology as an excuse for their exit from the Carabao Cup.
“We [him and the players] did not talk about it at the end of the match, ”he said.
“The rules are that VAR doesn’t happen in the game and so if the referee decides Cavani hasn’t done anything wrong we have to accept it. Complete stop. “
