The Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Ghana (SOGOG), in collaboration with Ernest Chemists Limited, has embarked on a three-day fistula repair and gynecological surgery program in Nkwanta District, Oti Region.

The surgical consultation took place from 12 to 14 April 2019 at the Nkwanta District Hospital.

The specialized team of specialist gynecologists-obstetricians and consultants as well as other Accra health professionals were able to perform a total of 18 major complex surgeries during the consultation, including six myomectomies (surgical removal of fibroids uterine), five total abdominal hysterectomies, four hysterectomies, repair of vesico-uterine fistula (UVF) and two exploratory laparotomies.

With the support of Ernest Chemists Limited, there was a good stock of quality drugs for surgeries, as well as to improve postoperative recovery of patients.

And then we got up early Saturday morning to continue the surgeries and exams until the early morning of Sunday, closing around 1 am. "

"We completed all successfully booked cases, organized a tour of the wards to make sure the patients were recovering satisfactorily, and then we left Nkwanta on Sunday afternoon and were satisfied with the participation and success. surgeries and outreach as a whole – deeply rewarding, though tedious exercise for God and the country, "he added.

Dr. Sefogah congratulated the management and staff of the Nkwanta District Hospital, especially their theater and anesthesia staff, for the support provided to the visiting team of specialists.
