President Nana Akufo-Addo tasked the new IGP, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, to establish a service that maintains the trust of citizens during his tenure.
The president made the roll when he was sworn in to the new IGP at Jubilee House on Friday.
According to the president, it is important that the police service behaves as “the credible and principled instrument to fulfill the duty of the executive to maintain law and order in the state”.
He noted that citizens can only trust the police when they perform their duties with integrity and without fear or favor, which is why the IGP must fulfill its obligations.
President Akufo-Addo urged the IGP not to tie the welfare of the police service to the fortunes of the ruling party, but to ensure that the service fulfills its primary mandate without depending on the ruling party.
He encouraged the IGP to exercise its functions with confidence.
In his acceptance speech, the newly sworn-in Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, assured the President that his attire will do whatever it takes to make the police a world-class institution.
“Our vision has been to become a world class police institution. Mr President, we are ready, we are trying to achieve it. “
“We know it won’t be easy, but my colleagues and I have decided that even though we can’t take her to that destination, we, at that point, will position the organization to that destination in a way that that there is not to go back, ”he said.
