Ethiopia has established an emergency center in the northern regional state of Tigray to meet the humanitarian needs of 2.5 million people, an Ethiopian official said on Thursday.

Mitiku Kassa, commissioner of the Ethiopian National Commission for Disaster Risk Management (NDRMC), said the center in the regional capital of Mekelle will have staff from Ethiopian ministries, Tigray interim administration offices, United Nations agencies.
