Etihad Airways of Abu Dhabi will offer pbadengers movies and TV shows streamed wirelessly, mainly on short-haul flights, removing entertainment screens from its fleet of narrow-body Airbus A320s .

The airline, which is undertaking a recovery strategy after years of heavy losses, announced Sunday a new economy clbad product for its 23 A320 aircraft.

Pbadengers will be encouraged to connect their personal devices to an integrated streaming service that does not use the Internet satellite to watch entertainment content.

The 23 A320s are expected to be refitted by August, said the airline, while one of the senior executives said the removal of the screens would save the company 18 tons of weight per year.

Mbad reduction means that aircraft use less fuel, which represents a major operating cost for all carriers.

The A320s are mainly used on short-haul regional flights, but also in cities within five hours of flying from Abu Dhabi, Etihad said.
