According to the Swiss daily Blick, Schaer quickly recovered after being treated by Swiss rescue workers and was able to continue playing by helping to set Swiss goals for the second half for a 2-0 win.

"It sounds awful, I do not remember anything," the Newcastle player told the newspaper after watching a video clip. "I went out for a few seconds, my skull still purrs, and I have a sore neck and a bruise on my forehead, but it was worth it."
