The accused admitted to administering cannabis infused candy to the victim
A 30-year-old evangelist has been remanded in custody by a circuit court in Koforidua in the eastern region for administering locally made cannabis to his 43-year-old ex-girlfriend.
The accused, Evangelist Samuel Ofosu, resides in Akyem Kukurantumi while the victim (name withheld) is a trader and resides in Koforidua.
Attorney General, Chief Inspector Owusu Ababio told the court that on August 6, 2021, the accused invited the victim to his home to help him prepare for his mother’s funeral.
On August 8, 2021, at around 7 p.m., the victim attended the accused’s home with her two children, aged 7 and 10.
A few hours later, the accused evangelist asked the victim if she often suffers from headaches, to which she replied in the affirmative.
He prescribed an herbal medicine that he bought in Kumasi that he says is powerful against headaches.
He suddenly turned off the light and administered three edible cannabis candies to the victim one after another and then administered a powdered substance twice to the victim under his tongue to swallow.
A few minutes later, the victim began to react severely to the side effects of the substances by experiencing nausea and vomiting amidst agitation and anxiety.
She started screaming for help by forcing her two children who were sleeping in another room to rush to their mother in an attempt to offer help, but the accused yelled at them, chased them and them. locked in their room.
The accused, Evangelist Samuel Ofosu locked the door with a password preventing the victim from leaving the room to seek help.
At around midnight, the accused claimed that he was taking the victim to hospital, but upon reaching the police instant checkpoint in Kukurantumi, the victim reported to the police his ordeal which led to his arrest.
The victim was rushed to Kukurantumi Community Hospital while the accused was being held in police custody.
Police investigators then searched the accused’s bedroom. Some of the edible cannabis candy has been salvaged. A substance suspected of being a narcotic was found in her wardrobe along with different substances in a similar container.
During questioning, the accused admitted to administering three of the four cannabis-infused candies to the victim and also gave her snuff.
The victim whose condition deteriorated was referred to East Koforidua Regional Hospital, but was subsequently referred to Korle-Bu for further treatment.
