Everton Score 1-0 Arsenal LIVE: Phil Jagielka opens the scoring after a surprise start

While the four-way battle for the last two Champions League spots is in full swing, it's Arsenal who has gone on pole with seven wins over his last nine.

They start the weekend in fourth place, but Sunday's game against Everton is their match in hand against Tottenham, third, who has only one point over.

However, to capitalize, Arsenal must show that he has surpbaded his lack of consistency against the UAE, since he has only won five of his 14 matches on the road.

Consistency has also been the heel of Everton's Achille all season.

A 2-0 win at West Ham last week allowed them to win two consecutive victories for the second time only in the Premier League season.

Fighting Arsenal to do it again could be the minimum requirement for Marco Silva to continue his momentum and to finish at the top of the pack by winning seventh place.

Follow all the action here …

Everton XI: Pickford, Coleman, Jagielka, Zouma, Worthy, Gomes, Gueye, Richarlison, Sigurdsson, Bernard, Calvert-Lewin.

Arsenal XI: Leno, Mustafi, Sokratis, Monreal, Maitland-Niles, Elneny, Guendouzi, Kolasinac, Ozil, Mkhitaryan, Lacazette.

Emery is certainly not opposed to the initial changes and, given how this first half went, it would not be surprising to see him change things at the break. Maybe Aubameyang will be called to the break, or maybe Ramsey will be brought with the Gunners needing a fighting spark in the middle of the field.

Everton's advantage after 45 minutes of play for Phil Jagielka, his first goal for nearly two years, marks for the Toffees. It was rather a combative, lacking in quality, which played in the hands of a tenacious team from Everton who has been the dominant force for 45 minutes.

Emery looks on with frustration as this first half has not been completed as planned. Everton will do his best to keep this as disconnected as possible, which means it's up to Emery to make the necessary adjustments.

Great defense! Arsenal conceded a free-kick on the flank and, while Monreal argues with referee Everton, strikes directly on the free kick. There was nothing illegal about it, but fortunately for Arsenal, Sokratis kept control of his goal and was able to come back and turn the Richarlison center for a corner.

It's Everton that shows all the initiative with the time that is flowing in this first semester. Arsenal needs to see this first semester and start recovering. Lacazette returns to a pbad and Zouma commits a foul, but the free-kick will be a free kick for Everton, Lacazette returning from an offside position. It's been that kind of day for the gunners.

The Maitland-Niles shot, blocked by Bernard, was Arsenal's only shot attempt in the first half. Everton has completely stifled them on the defensive, resuming the same pace they have stopped in recent weeks. Jagielka did not miss a beat in Keane's absence.

Lacazette tries a double with Ozil, but runs directly against Gomes in the desperate goal of winning a free kick. The referee is warned. Arsenal is sorely lacking in ideas and so little is happening right now.

Arsenal has not seriously worried Jordan Pickford yet.

The Arsenal attack threat has been non-existent for 15 minutes. They barely managed to keep a long spell, not to mention the dangerous progression of the ball to the final third. All this was very professional of Everton.

The tenacity and stubborn determination demonstrated by Everton are celebrated by these fans, and Arsenal has simply not been able to compete with it. The Toffees are the first to each ball and they win all 50/50 duels. Now, can they maintain this intensity?

Everton have won their last two Premier League games by a score of 2-0. They won their last consecutive victory without conceding a goal in January 2017 under Ronald Koeman.

Exceptional defensive work on the part of Bernard, who makes the way back and slips to the crucial moment to block a shot from Maitland-Niles, following a neat race from the back of the arsenal! Arsenal is looking to break up quickly and Sigurdsson is taken to mid-race by Sokratis who prevents him from running to the end of an inviting balloon forward.

It is yellow for Sokratis after a moment of deliberation by the referee. It was incredibly cynical on the part of the center of Arsenal, but it was certainly not enough to justify a red one.

This departure from Everton has created a hostile atmosphere in the Goodison Park for the Gunners. These fans are very involved right now and this is the kind of energy that Toffees like to eat. Arsenal desperatelt needs something positive to help build momentum.

Sokratis seems to be suffering from a muscular problem after meeting Gomes. The training staff is there to treat him and he is slow to get up as he ends up going on his own. He should be able to continue, but that is to watch.

Arsenal and Ipswich are the only teams in the top four in English football who have yet to qualify for the first time in the league.

Arsenal looks a little shaken after conceding this quick goal, although it's something they've become used to this season. This is the ninth goal that they conceded in the first 15 minutes of this Premier League campaign, while their resistance is about to be put to the test. They have trouble finding a rhythm for the moment.

Arsenal remain the only team in the Premier League to have failed to keep a blank score this season after Jagielka's first strike.

More misery for Arsenal elsewhere than at home, where he is only looking for a second Premier League win since November. It's another game on the outside with no white sheets, and they now have a tough road against one side of Everton who has been fit in this regard.

What impact did Jagielka, who was not even supposed to be on the side an hour ago! Keane was forced to quit because of illness, paving the way for Jagielka's entry, and he rewarded the Toffees with his first goal since April 15, 2017!

ARSENAL PEGGED BACK – EVERTON LEAD 1-0! A long throw – although controversial Digne who crossed the touchline – went to the first post and not treated by Arsenal, because he ended up bouncing gently on the path of Jagielka who turns into an empty net to five meters !

Everton's win over Chelsea in their last home game ended a series of 25 Premier League games without a win against the "Big Six". They won their last consecutive game in April 2014, beating Arsenal and Manchester United.

4 minutesminute by minute

This has certainly been a good start for Arsenal, who plays with a delightful tempo, eager to go from the front as soon as he comes into possession of the ball. They have a lot to prove today, as their form on the outside has recently been questioned as they have moved away from the UAE.

Guendouzi takes a yellow card while he arrives late and tramps Digne's foot involuntarily, leaving the defender back on the floor in search of a cure.
