The latest MCU movie Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings satisfactorily explores the mighty Makluan rings belonging to villain, The Mandarin. However, there are many other details about the rings that only comic book fans are familiar with. One of those details concerns the fate of the Rings after the Mandarin’s death.

After the villain was defeated by Tony Stark, the Rings escaped from SHIELD’s Weapon Vault Omega. Each ring found a new host, creating 10 different versions of The Mandarin with specific powers. While some of the hosts were astute, enterprising, and innovative, others felt lost after their lives were drastically changed by the Rings.

ten Lord Remaker

Lord Remaker attempts to destroy the Troy Central Constol in Iron Man (Vol. 5) # 21

Appearing in Iron Man (Vol. 5) # 21, Lord Remaker was a Chinese warlord who took control of Mandarin City after the Mandarin’s death. The Matter-Rearranger Ring, aka Remaker, located him and chose him as their first host, making him Mandarin-One.

Lord Remaker was one of the worst hosts of the rings because he didn’t have a proper plan of how to live with the ring. His attempts to use the atomic powers of the rings to create bombs to attack Troy Central Control were only partially successful. He also couldn’t agree with the other ring bearers, which is why he found himself fought by Mandarin-Seven before being beheaded by Malekith the Cursed.

9 Marc Kumar

Marc Kumar confronts Iron Man about his treatment of Pepper in The Invincible Iron Man (Vol. 5)

Mark was an independent marketing manager at The invincible Iron Man (Vol. 5) # 27. He fell in love with Pepper, who, along with Tony, is one of the best couples in the MCU. Listening to Pepper’s tales of her time with Stark, he concluded that the billionaire had abused her. The Mento-Intensifier Ring, aka The Liar, therefore considered him a suitable host and approached him.

As Mandarin-Eight, Marc accomplished nothing. His only attempt to try and fight Tony Stark ended in defeat when the Avenger took him out with a repulsor blast, leaving him admitted to intensive care at a SHIELD hospital. His hatred towards Tony was also misguided and that led to losing the one person he cared about. After learning that he had tried to go after Tony, Pepper returned the engagement ring he gave her and said that she only had love for her boss.

8 Colin sixty

Tony Stakr and Colin Sixty play mind games together in Iron Man: Fatal Frontier Infinite Comics

A clone created by AIM in Iron Man: Fatal Frontier Infinite Comic # 11, Colin was selected by the White Light Ring, aka Daimonic, as the host, becoming Mandarin-Two. After several unsuccessful attempts to kill Iron-Man, Colin was finally defeated by Iron Patriot.

Colin’s failure in almost everything he’s tried also makes him one of the Rings’ worst hosts. Despite his many powers (since he was not human), he failed to kill Iron Man and Malekith the Cursed. He was also not self-sufficient as he had to rely on the help of 3 other mandarins in his missions. Even with the help, he always failed.

7 Lightning rod

The Lightning Conductor attacks Iron Man on Broadway in The Invincible Iron Man (Vol. 5) # 26

In The invincible iron man (Vol. 5) # 26, an anonymous Broadway director became bitter after Tony fired him from a musical about his life. The Lightning Ring quickly seized the opportunity and made him Mandarin-Nine, giving him Electro-Blast powers.

Lightning Conductor’s lack of goals made him an unfriendly host. All he wanted was to fight Iron Man and even that task seemed too much for him. He was unaware of the extent of his powers, so he found himself having to recharge at the most inopportune moment. His lack of conscience also prevented him from anticipating the attack of Malekith the Cursed, who took him off before stealing his ring.

6 Thomas Wilkins aka Endotherm

Endotherm attempts to use the gadgets he stole from Stark International to defeat Iron Man in Iron Man # 136

Wilkins was an incompetent security guard at the London branch of Stark International in Iron Man # 136. He was constantly worried about being fired, so he figured killing Stark would be the best way to avoid that. After Stark thwarted Wilkins’ plans, the Ice Blast Ring approached him to become Mandarin-Ten.

Wilkin’s delusional nature qualifies him as one of the rings’ worst hosts. He was also unable to do anything right because even after stealing some of Stark International’s best gadgets, he was unable to fight Iron Man. Wilkins was also too weak for Abigail Burns to be able to pick up her ring without much effort.

5 Victor Kohl aka The Exile

Victor Kohl aka Exile regrets killing his family members in Iron Man (Vol. 5) # 28

Kohl was considered the black sheep of his family as he had not been through Terrigenesis, so he was eager to prove himself. When the Black Light Ring aka Nightbringer chose him as the Mandarin-Five in Iron Man (Vol. 5) # 28, he was more than happy to accept.

As a host, Kohl has done next to nothing wonderful. His decision to allow the Ring to fully control him led him to choices he would regret, such as killing his own family. He was also not noble enough to take responsibility for his own actions, and instead blamed Iron Man for not stopping him. He was also too incompetent as a member of the Inhumans for Medusa to kick him out of the group.

4 Harvey Elder aka Mole Man

Mole Man leading his minions

The Mole Man, one of the first villains the Fantastic Four fought in the comics, was also ring-picked by Daimonic in Iron Man (Vol. 5) # 26. As the Mandarin-Six he attempted to create advanced ring weapons but was arrested so he escaped and took on a new position as a HYDRA Agent Bounty Hunter.

Most villains are often too selfish to accept defeat, but Mole Man knew he couldn’t win against Iron Man and Dark Angel, so he ran away. His refusal to become Mandarin Prime when given the opportunity also highlighted his analytical prowess. He was aware that all of this would be pointless, so he chose to leave the ring behind.

3 Alec eiffel

Alec Eiffel teams up with other Mandarins in Iron Man (Vol. 5) # 25

Alec Eiffel was chosen by the Votex Ring aka Spin as the host in Iron Man (Vol. 5) # 25, thus becoming Mandarin-Three. Like Mole Man, he aimed to create super-weapons that could destroy cities.

Eiffel turned out to be smarter than the other hosts in making a pact with Tony Stark to get the rest of the rings. It may have been one of the most unlikely friendships in the Iron Man comics, but it didn’t last because Eiffel betrayed Stark. Aside from his cunning ways, he was also incredibly gifted. He had super speed, which even Tony admitted admitting was as fast as Quick Silver (which travels at 4091 m / s). And unlike other realms, he also had teleportation powers that allowed him to move around realms.

2 Abigail Burns

Abigail Burns helps Tony Stark destroy the Sinister London weapon base in Iron Man (Vol. 5) # 18.

Abigail was an activist who believed the world would be a better place without hegemony and capitalism. Seeing her as a suitable host, the Flame-Blast Ring, aka Incandescence, approached her by Iron Man (Vol. 5) # 18.

Abigail was a great host as she chose to do the right thing after finding out that all her ring wanted was for her to get rid of Iron Man. Most of the other hosts were mean, but Abigail did many heroic deeds, attacking Mandarin-One and Mandarin-Five first, then helping Tony Stark destroy the Sinister London weapon base. She also had a lot of resilience as she was still keen to fight injustice even after both of her arms were cut off by Malekith the Cursed.

1 The cursed malekith

Malekith declares his intention to go after other Mandarins in Iron Man (Vol. 5) # 23.

Traditionally one of the main villains of Thor’s comics, Malekith the Cursed has been approached to serve as the new bearer of the Disintegration Beam Ring, aka Spectral in Iron Man (Vol. 5) # 23. Instead of settling for the One Ring, he attacked other hosts because he wanted the Rings as a whole in order to become the One and Only Mandarin.

Malekith’s ambition sets him apart as the best host of all. He was an incredible fighter and strategist, seeing how he attacked all the other hosts without getting killed or injured. When he was cornered by his new opponent Iron Man, he was also wise enough to make a deal for the Avenger to spare his life in exchange for the ring he had. More impressive still, he managed to escape to Asgard and start a new war with Thor.
