Former Arsenal full-back Bacary Sagna has torn Arsenal apart after their 2-0 loss to Chelsea on Sunday, saying “the club’s DNA is gone”.
A pervasive force in Arsene Wenger’s successful teams at the Emirates Stadium of yesteryear, Sagna believes the team will now “concede a stupid goal” every time he looks at the Gunners.
Arsenal have now lost both of their games to start the campaign, which has increased the pressure on manager Mikel Arteta.
What was said?
“The DNA of the club is gone,” Sagna said CMR. “When I look at Arsenal now, honestly I know they’re going to waste the majority of the time, that something is going to happen, that we’re going to concede a stupid goal.
“When I was playing anyone would love to join Arsenal, now … we have lost our identity.”
Bad start to the season
Arsenal’s loss to Chelsea comes after their 2-0 loss to newly promoted Brentford in the Premier League opening weekend. They are now tied for 18th on goal differential.
Arteta had hoped the opposite would happen before the year, as an eighth place finish last season created pre-season dissatisfaction among many supporters.
The Gunners face Manchester City in their next league game, which means three losses in three games is a strong possibility.
Arteta responds to the pressure
In recent weeks, the manager has adopted a positive attitude, although the results on the pitch have been grim.
On Sunday, just before Chelsea’s loss, Arteta claimed his vision was finally coming to fruition.
