– The Accra Excel Lions Club is to raise $ 200,000 to put in place a
Center for Glucose-Related Diseases in the Municipality of Tema West.
The center, when
established will become a resource point for the treatment of diabetes in Ghana and
also help educate the general public about the symptoms of early diabetes and
how to prevent it.
Mr. Edward Adzimah, the
President of the club, who announced it at a charter party and
fundraiser over the weekend, said that the project's signature was the
result of numerous health screening exercises conducted by the club, which
showed that most of those affected did not know about it.
He said the installation
was a club priority to help combat to reduce the incidence of
diabetes in the country.
According to the data of
the World Health Organization, diabetes remains one of the main causes of
dead worldwide. In sub-Saharan Africa, it is estimated that eight percent of
the population over 25 years old has diabetes.
In Ghana, approximately
Four million people have diabetes, many of them unaware of their
state.
Mr. Adzimah said
Because diabetes kills slowly, it is important to educate and encourage
people to carry out regular checks to know their status.
"Once the individuals are
to establish their status, this will enable them to take the necessary measures
precautions to take to manage the disease, "he said.
Mr. Adzimah encouraged
institutions and individuals to support the center's construction initiative.
Dr. Kwaku Mensah-Bonsu,
District 418 Lions Club Governor, congratulated members of Excel Lions Club
for their service to society and encouraged them to continue serving their
communities and humanity as a whole.
For her part, Ms. Lydia
Alhbadan, the member for Ayawaso West Waguon, who was the chair
guest of honor, expressed gratitude to the club for its decision to
build the center and pledged its support for its completion on schedule.
She emphasized the

The club presented its charter, which is the official recognition of its
