Franklin Cudjoe, president of IMANI Africa, believes that the preponderant presence of security in the byelection of Asawasa West Wuogon has compromised the credibility of the Electoral Commission (EC).

Although the government justified the heavy security, which included masked personnel deployed in the constituency, Mr. Cudjoe said that it "destroyed the integrity of the process".

The controversy erupted when there was a shootout near the voting center in La Bawaleshie that temporarily disrupted the vote.

The EC then left and declared that the by-election won by the ruling party's new ruling party candidate was peaceful, as the unrest occurred near a polling station, not the office of vote.

It was after the observers criticized security for indirectly intimidating voters, resulting in low turnout.

Cudjoe said it fed the speech of the New Democratic Congress (NDC), which questioned the neutrality of European Commission President Jean Mensa.

"Suggest that the elections have not been controversial or that the smooth running is also another indictment. If these men were sent to the parliamentary candidate, it meant he was not able to go out and vote and he does not forget that he is the parliamentary candidate. "

"When a crime is committed in someone's home, you do not send hooded people." The hooded people are like armed robbers, "Cudjoe added.

The NDC eventually withdrew from the by-election following the shooting and ordered its polling agents and observers to leave the region after consulting with its parliamentary candidate, Delali Brempong.

Mr. Cudjoe also stated that the incident was a blot on President Nana Akufo-Addo, under whose government a new Yaa-Naa was locked up in Dagbon.

"It is an indictment and security has also dishonored the president. Last week he was in Dagbon doing something noble, but suddenly, someone should do this useless action.

In his view, national security had to admit its role in escalating tensions during the by-election.

"I think national security has made a terrible mistake. They should accept and they should accept in a way that does not mean that I have sent men but that I am ashamed of having sent men. That's what they should say.
