Juan Mata has chosen to refuse a huge transfer of £ 550,000 a week to Shanghai SIPG, a member of the Chinese Super League, to sign a new contract with Manchester United.

The Spaniard was intimately tied to the fact that he was moving away from Old Trafford this summer as he approached the end of his previous contract, and finally agreed on new conditions in June.

Because the feeling of being a @Man Utd player is something very special. Unique. I am very proud to sign a new contract and do my best to bring the club back to where it belongs. ⚪⚫❤ #MUFC pic.twitter.com/9IORMF73EU

It was thought that Barcelona and Atletico Madrid were interested in Mata, but 90min Shanghai SIPG also made an offer to the Spanish worth £ 550,000 a week, which Mata rejected in favor of extending his stay at Old Trafford.

Mata has always wanted to stay with United, but was not satisfied with their offer for a further one – year extension. He pushed for a two-year guaranteed contract and finally managed to convince United to make such an offer in June.

By rejecting Shanghai SIPG, Mata proved his commitment to the Red Devils, who were desperate to retain him this summer.

After signing his new contract, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praised his intelligence and professionalism, adding that his role behind the scenes is just as important as his presence on the ground.

He will be a vital presence in United's locker room as the Red Devils seek to recruit a number of young players this summer.

They have already added Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and they have been asked to pursue several others. Therefore, having players with Mata's experience will greatly badist in the development of the team.

He made 32 appearances in all competitions last season, but struggled to keep a spot in the starting lineup, making just 16 starts in the Premier League.

However, he continued to work hard to try to impress his manager and finished the season with six goals and four badists.
