What steps are you taking to keep your kids healthy this winter?

Health is wealth – I believe in it. Good health allows you to do everything better. From the time my kids were little I gave them amla juice and haldi doodh regularly and we started it all when they were very young. So my advice to all mothers would be to instill the natural remedies that you might have and the ones that our moms have taught us. Also tailor your meal plans according to the season which is always healthy and fresh, giving you and your children the right nutrition needed to fight common illnesses during any given season.

What is a technique passed down from your mother / grandmother to keep you and your family healthy during winters?

It is always good to go back to your roots and follow these traditional home remedies passed down from generation to generation. I love them and even today I incorporate the teachings of my mother and mother-in-law into our way of life, especially during winters when health needs twice as much care. One of these nuska practices vapor inhalation with Vicks Vaporub. Even though we have had a mild cough and symptoms of a cold, Mom advises us to mix 1 to 2 teaspoons of Vicks Vaporub in hot water and inhale the vapor infused with natural ingredients. This traditional method relieves my cold and cough symptoms.
Along with that, I also include the traditional practice of drinking hot Haldi doodh before bed. Warm milk at the end of the day always helps our body to calm down and sleep peacefully. The condiment also has antiviral and antibacterial properties that boost immunity, a measure needed to manage respiratory health in winters.
Black tea is another thing you will see me indulge in and I recently discovered lopchu tea – a variation of Darjeeling, the hot brew would be very beneficial for health as it is also loaded with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. help build immunity.

Are there any specific foods / ingredients that you have added to your diet since the temperatures dropped?

These are the green vegetables and seasonal fruits which are available fresh in the market and which contain the necessary nutrition to fight against the ailments of winter. Figs and strawberries are my favorite this season when it comes to winter fruits and vegetables, I love methi, spinach, and root vegetables. Adapting them to our meals has always helped boost immunity and I also prepare it in a way that my children enjoy. Along with that, a cooking ingredient that is becoming my favorite is Haldi and Ginger, they have diseased natural properties that work wonders in boosting your immunity. While haldi is known as a versatile ingredient and has been known for its immunity-boosting properties for centuries, the thermogenic properties of ginger warm your body.

Ice cream in winter: is it allowed in your home? If not, what do you replace it with to curb your children’s cravings?
Winter comes with festivities and fun days, so I don’t completely prevent them from having ice cream and let them indulge in the same every now and then. But more than ice cream, I indulge in their delicacies with homemade gajar ka halwa or hot chocolate or even a homemade cake but I prefer to do what I can at home and sometimes even make it an activity for the children. . I also believe the indulgence is good, but with a touch of healthy ingredients, like adding a pinch of cinnamon to our hot chocolate and replacing the sugar with jaggery. A small change can go a long way!
