EXCLUSIVE: Tom Werner, President of Liverpool, explains why Phillipe Coutinho "regrets" the move from Barcelona and explains the summer transfer policy

Tom Werner believes that Jurgen Klopp has put Liverpool in a position to attract and retain the best players in world football.

The Reds president is confident that the club's pulling power is stronger than ever as he prepares for the Champions League final on Saturday against Tottenham in Madrid.

Over the last ten years, Liverpool has been handicapped by the disappearance of stars such as Xabi Alonso, Javier Mascherano, Fernando Torres, Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho.

However, Werner insists that the elite talents such as Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Virgil van Dijk have stopped exhausting themselves, knowing that they can achieve all their dreams while staying at Anfield.

There will be no prestigious outings this summer, Liverpool focusing on improving his team. Werner said that any player on the planet would appreciate being part of what Klopp has created.

"As far as I'm concerned, there's no reason why an elite player does not want to play for Liverpool," Werner told ECHO.

"We have such a strong team with a strong back office and a manager who, I think, is one of the world's greatest football managers.

"So, I do not think there will be players who, if they were invited to play for Liverpool, do not jump on the opportunity."

Werner believes that Coutinho "probably regrets" his decision to move away from Liverpool in January 2018 after requesting a move to Barcelona.

The owners of Fenway Sports Group reluctantly agreed to sanction the £ 142 million deal after repeatedly demanding a transfer.

Coutinho said he was taking a step forward, but he struggled to settle at Nou Camp and Liverpool started without him to reach a second Champions League final.

The Brazilian striker had a terrible reunion with his former club when the Reds stunned the Barca with a historic brawl in the semi-final return match.

"I would just like to recall the story of Philippe Coutinho," added Werner.

"I have only good things to say about Philippe. But I think he left Liverpool because he wanted to play for one of the two big Spanish clubs.

"We tried to convince him that the club was going in the right direction and that he could live great opportunities in the Champions League by staying in Liverpool. I think he probably regrets his decision. "

Klopp said that he did not anticipate spending as much as the £ 170 million spent last summer.

Werner, however, promised that funds would be available for the reinforcements requested by the manager.

"John (W Henry), Mike (Gordon) and I will let the transfer company to those who know her so well – Jurgen and (sports director) Michael Edwards," said Werner.

"If they recommend anyone, we will support this recommendation. Our role at FSG is to support the manager and those around him in the best possible way. "
