According to one study, cardiac patients who exercise regularly and who are in better physical shape may have less cognitive impairment. Patients in better health have a better memory, he adds.
"The message for patients with heart failure is to do exercises," said author of the study, Ercole Vellone, professor at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, in Italy. The study badyzed data from more than 600 male patients aged 67 to 71 with heart failure from six countries. During the course of the research, the "Montreal Cognitive Assessment" test was used to measure cognitive function and exercise capacity was measured with the aid of a six-minute walk test.
The results showed that younger, better educated, physically fit heart failure patients were significantly less likely to suffer from cognitive impairment. Two-thirds of heart failure patients had cognitive problems, showed the study presented at EuroHeartCare 2019, scientific congress of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), held in Milan, Italy, from May 2 to 4. – IANS
