Expansion work at Kumasi airport is progressing steadily

The work of the second phase of Kumasi Airport, which consists of building a new terminal and developing the existing one to accommodate more pbadengers, is progressing.

There will also be an extension of the track and the construction of a larger car park.

Once completed, facelift will bring Kumasi Airport to an international standard.

Currently, all concrete columns of the new terminal have been erected and the retaining wall is under construction.

During the inspection of the project, the Minister of Aviation, Mr. Joseph Kofi Adda, expressed his satisfaction with the progress of work carried out so far.

He added that the speed with which entrepreneurs worked gave hope that the project would be completed in a timely manner.

Mr Adda said the country was becoming the aviation center of West Africa.

The Minister of Aviation was accompanied by his Deputy, Mr. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, the Director General of Ghana Airport Company Limited, Mr. John Dekyem Attafuah, the Director of Regional Airports, Mr. Kwadwo Abrefa Sarkodie and the Director General of Ghana. New airlines

Mr Adda said that everything was ready for the entry of two new national airlines into the industry, with test flights in December.

Context

The second phase of the airport expansion began in May 2018 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2020.

The € 64 million project is being implemented by Contracta UK.

Made work

According to the project leader, Mr. Jorge Tavares de Almeida, the foundation's work was 60% completed, while the entire project was about 16% complete.

He said the rains had delayed the project a little, but work was on track for completion, as planned.
