According to Mr. Abotsi, the current system according to which the appointment of judges to the Supreme Court is made by the President in consultation with the State Council with the approval of Parliament opens the judiciary to a possible influence and to manipulations on the part of the executive.

Speaking yesterday at the University of Ghana on the theme "The Judiciary and Democratic Consolidation," said Mr. Abotsi, also a renowned private jurist, who aimed to maximize the value of money. judicial independence. He said that some judges were trying to be politically correct in order to win the favor of the appointing authority who is the executive. According to him, many lawyers and judges have tended to complain about certain appointments of judges to the Supreme Court.

"It's an open secret about the complications and the politicization of the appointment of judges to the superior courts," he said.

He said that some judges were trying to be politically correct to inspire executive appointments and that if an independent body was created to recommend judges, they would not be concerned about appointments and promotions, but would render justice as autonomous as possible.

The renowned attorney acknowledged that efforts were underway to improve the quality of judges. He also worried about the manipulation of the judiciary's budget, stressing that the judiciary complained every year of budget cuts or budget cuts, which obviously affected justice in the country as well.

He explained that Article 127 of the Constitution provides that the budget of the judiciary shall not be affected or reduced and that all funds necessary for the judiciary shall be released by the executive.

"If the executive continues to manipulate the budget of the judiciary, it is possible to manipulate the judiciary and the judiciary in general," he added.
