Warning! The upcoming SPOILERS for the Avengers: Endgame!

Spider-Man's next sequel: Far From Home comes shortly after the events of Avengers: Endgame, which saw a significant time jump for its characters, resurrecting those who fell in Avengers: Infinity War five years later. IGN has learned that this includes not only Peter Parker, but also many of his relatives.

The final phase begins just weeks after the events of Infinity War, which took place in 2018. After the Avengers killed Thanos but failed to recover the Infinity Stones to cancel the Decimation, the story five-year advance, which brings the current MCU. calendar until 2023.

This means that when the recently resurrected Peter Parker (Tom Holland) returns to high school with Endgame's coda, many of his clbadmates will have already graduated from college while still in high school. Peter will obviously not be the only child of the MCU in this situation, because the coda reveals that he meets at school with his best friend, Ned (Jacob Batalon).

A very well-placed source from Marvel Studios told IGN: "The instant fall of Thanos has erased 50% of life – and 100% of Peter's friends."

So, that means that MJ (Zendaya) died in Infinity War as well, and that's why Peter, Ned and MJ are all still in high school in Spider-Man: Far From Home).

Marvel Studios President Kevin Fege confirmed to IGN shortly before the release of Infinity War that last year, Far From Home, would take place after Endgame. Feige said at the time that Far From Home would see Peter face the after-effects of the Avengers' third and fourth movies: "What does it mean to try to return to a normal life after that?" is happening in this movie [Infinity War]? Not to mention what happens in the next [Avengers] movie."

"It's funny to see that because it can represent, you know, the world as a whole, as they try to progress," Feige said. "And you can do it in a way that's unique and different from the two Avengers movies that people are about to see."

The chronology of the MCU had generally been aligned with the year of the release of a film from the MCU. That's why the Battle of New York is definitely set in 2012, the year of Marvel's The Avengers. Of course, Spider-Man: Homecoming sadly screwed things up when it opened in 2017 saying that the Battle of New York had unfolded eight years earlier, which would have set it in 2009 instead of 2012. And to make things even more confusing, it turned out that the reunion took place in 2016, the same year that Captain America: Civil War meant that the Avengers should have taken place in 2008. But Endgame reaffirms clearly that the Battle of Manhattan took place in 2012, so that Spider-Man: Homecoming messed up.
