SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Recently released court documents reveal that Facebook has allowed kids to charge huge bills for digital games, while the company rejected the recommendations to deal with what it called "friendly fraud."
The internal memos of Facebook and other recordings were unsealed on Thursday night. They were part of a lawsuit based on allegations that Facebook deliberately trapped teenagers by allowing them to spend hundreds of dollars to buy additional features on games such as "Angry Birds" and "Barn Buddy" .
The documents show that Facebook is planning to take steps to reduce the risk that children will accumulate fees on parents' credit cards without their knowledge. But the documents indicate that Facebook has not adopted them, for fear of reducing revenues.
A statement from Facebook did not address his rejection of the recommendations. Instead, Facebook claims to have offered refunds and changed its practices.
